Sri Lanka, the island nation anticipates $600 million earnings in the tourism sector this year alone.
In the coming years, Sri Lanka is looking to invest $10 billion to build and upgrade hotels. Approximately 2,000-3,000 rooms will be constructed in 2010 with 20,000 rooms expected to be built in the next six years to cater to anticipated demand. Sri Lanka is a country with beautiful beaches, rare and wonderful wildlife, and gorgeous hill country with tea plantations. The country is experiencing high levels of growth in the tourism sector (50% year-on-year growth!) following the end of the 26 year civil conflict which ended in early 2009.

Speakers on the webinar will include the commercial officer at the U.S. Embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the Director General for the Sri Lankan Ministry of Tourism, the past-President for the Sri Lankan Hotel and Tourism Association, and the Executive Director of the local American Chamber of Commerce. These on-the-ground experts plan to share with interested American companies a wealth of information about the growth that is happening in the country, the Sri Lankan government’s active support for that growth, and how U.S. exporters can participate.
